Nina Plášková

Greenland shark 1.577, 2020.
Bronze.
13 × 27 cm.

Animal mythology and technology come together in works by Nina Plášková (*1997, Czech Republic; HSLU Art & Design, Lucerne; Bern University of the Arts, Switzerland, 2018; Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee). In Greenland shark 1.577, Plášková considers how legends are given new life by naïve social media users, here embodied in the image of a shark. The figure is rendered in bronze, evoking strength, which challenges an old Germanic dream interpretation of the shark as a symbol for mental instability.
