Navot Miller is a Berlin based artist from Israel, currently studying at the Kunsthochschule Weißensee. Millers work is known for its characteristic compositions fuelled by the flamboyant use of colours and the intensity of the exploration of flatness through the means of collage. He opened this years program at Weserhalle with his Colourful, homo, great exhibition, going on to exhibit at Grove Collective (London, April ’22) and 1969 Gallery (New York, June ’22) both of which were curated by Russell Tovey.
The Berlin based Chileniean-Preuvian artist Ivana de Vivanco completed her studies at the Art Academy of Leipzig under Annette Schröter. Her canvases carry her unique language of Hallucinatory, decadently colourful, and utterly compelling scenes, that depict a host of unseemly players in order to reflect the absurdities of the human-made world. Her work were most recently exhibited in 68Projects (Berlin, September ’22) and Galerie Droste (Berlin, September ’22), and will be a part of Art Cologne with Galerie Anita Beckers and Kornfeld (Cologne, November ’22).

[Image: Ellen Antico] We are delighted to present our final auction of the year, with the primary goal of raising funds for Berlin based artists and to ensure our ongoing programme. The works are available to view at Weserhalle via bookings, with the auction taking place entirely online. Sign up here to be notified of the next auction.
All participating artists are based in Berlin and have been selected from 600 entries to our recent open call. The work was selected by a panel of guest curators; Johanna Dumet, Andy Kassier and Christine Schmelter. French Painter Johanna Dumet (*1991) has exhibited at KEWENIG GALERIE, HVW8, and most recently at Weserhalle, marking her first solo show of 2020. Conceptual artist Andy Kassier (*1989) lives and works in Berlin. His work includes installations, performances, photography, videos, sculptures and painting. Christine Schmelter (*1990) studied Art History in Vienna and Berlin and is currently managing Edition König with a focus on fine art prints and multiples.
We at Weserhalle are delighted to present our next group exhibition, Auction 6, highlighting a key selection of our current local artists and collaborators. The exhibition accommodates a physical display of works hosted at the gallery, with the bidding and auction activity taking place entirely online. We aim to raise funds to enable both our gallery and the artists we support to continue producing their respective work.
With a focus on locally produced art, Weserhalle is committed to supporting new and emerging artists in Berlin to provide a platform for their professional artistic development. Additionally, the exhibition Auction 6 consciously works within the limitations determined by the current conditions of the world—namely, a global pandemic—to find new curatorial possibilities within extraordinary and challenging circumstances. This also gives us the opportunity to re-establish the gallery’s core directives: to remain a consistent and active member of the local community, while considering community health and safety. To this end, Auction 6 will assume a de-centralised format to become the second auction in which the bidding takes place online.
In previous auctions at Weserhalle, over 90% of the participating artists and buyers were local to Neukölln. The community-oriented programme of Weserhalle emphasises connection and conviviality, with an intention to generate community networks of artist support and neighbourhood engagement. By taking this localised approach, we aim to raise funds to enable both our gallery and the artists we support to continue producing their respective work, while also maintaining a significant connection to the surrounding neighbourhood. We intend to preserve this community building initiative as central to our curatorial programme, using the online auction format to expand the reach of the gallery for the benefit of the artists we support. Additionally, in order to make art accessible to a wide range of visitors, artworks will be priced at a scale of affordability.

Alexandra Müller, Bastian Thiery, Cibelle Cavalli Bastos, Coco Magnusson, Franz Böhlke, Hola Mono, Inna Levinson, Ivana de Vivanco, Johanna Dumet, Monty Richtofen, Manuel Wroblewski, Paul Waak, Sarah Schneider, Stephan Dybus (more to be announced).
Weserhalle curated a selection of 32 local artists from 26 countries all based in Berlin to auction their works online. The artworks were accessible for viewing at the gallery by booking private appointments, with the bidding closing on May 22 at 8pm. This was a fundraiser: when submitting an entry to the auction, the artist had the opportunity to choose the percentage of the final sales for donation to the gallery. Weserhalle will use these funds to ensure its ongoing programme.

On December 13 at 7pm Weserhalle will host its 4th art auction. Paintings, prints, sculptures, photography, drawings, etchings, sketchings, knitted socks – it’s all there. In order to make the art accessible to everyone, there will be no minimum price or reserve. We realise that this is a big risk to the artists involved, but as Drew Barrymore said: “If you don’t take risks, you’ll have a wasted soul.”
When submitting their entry, the artists had the opportunity to choose the percentage of the final sales for donation to the gallery. Weserhalle will use these funds to ensure its ongoing programme and maintaining and improving the infrastructure of the space.
On August 23 Weserhalle will host its third live art auction, taking the concept of “exposure” as its broad but provocative theme. Who will risk exposure at auction, and who will seek it? Is exposure a natural (chemical) process, or an unthinkable danger? Weserhalle invited participants to create artworks for submission, interpreting the theme in any way possible. Unlike a regularly curated exhibition, Weserhalle’s third auction toes the line between risk and opportunity, providing a platform for diverse artworks to be exposed to each other, to be exposed to an audience, and to be exposed to the fickle processes of commerce. True to its mandate, “exposure” reflects the gallery’s commitment to promoting new and emerging artists through its diverse programming, and with this third auction Weserhalle invites participants to expose and be exposed.
Each artist had the opportunity to choose a percentage of their final sales for donation to the gallery. Weserhalle will use these funds to ensure its ongoing programme and maintaining and improving the infrastructure of the space.
Informed by the theme, all works will start at 0€ with no reserve.
We’re almost in the closing moment of the 2010s.
How will we remember this decade in the future?
