Mauro C. Martinez paints memes in oil and acrylic. He takes images that circulate briefly online and sets the fast, disposable language of internet culture against the slow, archival weight of oil painting. Martinez often pairs this material with art historical imagery and works through irony and dark humour, treating painting as a way of documenting the present. His technique follows the source image: a drawing placed by projector or grid and a thin wash of colour for the oil works, and layered airbrush, aerosol and silkscreened text for the blurred paintings of his Sensitive Content series.
