Artist
Line Lyhne
Born 1991 in Aarhus, lives and works in Frankfurt am Main
Line Lyhne works with mosaic, taking industrially produced tiles that come in readymade slabs, dismantling them and reassembling them into tiled reliefs with a handmade, worn surface. Her motifs mix ornament with hand-drawn patterns, producing imagery that moves between figuration and abstraction. Alongside the mosaics she makes sculpture in hand-carved marble, basalt and forged or painted steel, leaving production marks such as the imprint of the chisel visible. Lyhne sets the industrial against the handmade to question labour, craft and the value of materials, and works across the line between fine and applied art, between the art object, furniture and the decorative interior.
