Artist
Ron DeFelice
Born 1958, lives and works in Connecticut
Ron DeFelice paints in oil on canvas and wood, joining the tradition of plein air landscape painting with characters from cartoons, toys and pop culture. Figures such as the Road Runner, Popeye and Mickey Mouse turn up inside carefully observed landscapes, producing impossible realities. His method is hybrid: DeFelice combines digital design and rendering, sculpture and traditional painting, an approach shaped by a long career as an artist in animated film. The paintings draw on childhood memory and a sincere reverence for nature, and carry a mix of weirdness, nostalgia and optimism.
