Katie Kimmel

Katie Kimmel makes ceramic sculpture, and her subject is dogs. Working from photographs, she sculpts dogs in clay, often as vases, then bisque-fires, glazes and paints them, firing again and again until the colours are right. The work grows out of life with her own dogs and from imagining their personalities, their jobs, their dreams and their conversations. Kimmel wants her pieces to pass on the same simple, unguarded joy that dogs seem to feel all day, every day.
