Claudia Rafael

Claudia Rafael is a digital artist who paints with code, using AI and augmented reality to produce surreal portraits and filters built from fluid shapes, kaleidoscopic colour and contrasting textures. Her work deals with technology, extended and mixed realities, and mixed media. Her research looks at how digitalism forms new aesthetics in relation to nature, art and pop culture, and argues for an emancipatory use of tools such as AR and AI that widens conventional ideas of beauty and gives everyone alternative ways of imagining themselves. The PSTHMN series follows altered singularities, an evolution of beauty and bodies in progress in which identity and presence are continuously transmuted; single frames from the AI-generated video become UV prints on acrylic glass.
