Artist
Anouk Lamm Anouk
Born in Vienna, lives and works in Vienna
Anouk Lamm Anouk paints in acrylic on linen, often on the unprimed reverse of the canvas and without preliminary sketches. Their compositions are built from abstract bodies, circles and lines in an earthy, restrained palette of black, white, beige and pastel tones, forming a space that is hard to grasp, where forms and signs settle into an odd harmony. In the ongoing Lesbian Jazz series, faceless bodies meet in intimate poses, their faces covered by white circles drawn with a self-made compass of pastel and thread, giving visibility to lesbian and queer desire in painting. The post/pre series uses circular forms as portals into a space without bodies. The practice extends into sculpture, poetry, performance and set design, and is guided by a manifesto that sets aside age, gender and origin and rejects hierarchical and patriarchal structures.
