Bella Bram
Born 1993, lives and works in Berlin
Bella Bram works across sculpture, installation, ceramics and etching, combining wood, metal, ceramic, paper, textile, plastic and modelling clay. Her objects borrow the forms of insects such as ants, beetles and grasshoppers, and the structures of their dwellings, and set them beside shelves, tables and vases that recall the futuristic architecture of the 1970s. This furniture refers to the interior and exterior space of the human being, and the works hover between furniture, information surface and display. Polygonal vases stand in fragile positions on the verge of falling, and the snail returns again and again as a symbolic figure. Bram is drawn to moments of in-between-ness and to archiving, collecting and keeping, held in a tension between control and letting go.
