David Noro

Born 1993 in Copenhagen, lives and works in Copenhagen

David Noro paints on canvas, linen, wood and fabric in oil, acrylic, aquarelle, pigment and binder, lacquer, ink, phototransfer and wood stain, sometimes in frames of his own making. He looks for patterns in daily life, patterns that include or exclude, and for the ways society perceives emotion, approaching urgent and unresolved themes through self-composed myths that mix real-life source material with the mythical, the abstract and the awkward. Faces recur, sometimes his own, sometimes stylised masks, fixed in their most absurd expressive moment and laid out flat, without perspective, like a frieze. Noro paints flat on tables, using brushes alongside rollers and printmaking machinery, and treats each work as a space for experiment. His figures feel almost familiar, their scenes tender and strange in equal measure.
