Ornella Pocetti
Born 1991 in Buenos Aires, lives and works in Argentina
Ornella Pocetti works in painting and ceramics, from small oil paintings to hanging pieces and larger installations. Her pictures set female and non-binary figures in invented landscapes: bodies without faces, creatures in metamorphosis, flowers, vegetation turning to mist. Light comes from unknown sources and shadows fall detached from what casts them, giving the scenes an eerie, dreamlike atmosphere with something of the graphic novel about it. Pocetti aims for the known and the unknown to coexist in one image, and follows the cycles of nature, growth, movement and disintegration, in a territory where violence and eroticism are intertwined. Her sources include classical painting as it circulates online, and she experiments with display devices that distort and fragment the figure.
