Description
Nina Vandeweghe (*1988) currently lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. She graduated from KASK, Ghent in 2012 having studied painting and illustration. Her pictorial work often takes language as a starting point. Excerpts of text, a word, a sentence, or a quote, are the trigger for a new work. From the interaction between image and text (whether inscribed within the image itself or in the title) a comical meaning emerges. ‘Whatever you do, don’t fall asleep during the day’, and ‘Confession’, are autobiographical works of Nina Vandeweghe. They reflect the daily struggles caused by insomnia. It shows how living with a condition like insomnia affects everything in someone’s life. Losing a relationship, not being able to work, depression, anxiety, etc. Her most recent exhibitions include Alice Gallery, Belgium Brussels (2022) and Rufus, Ghent, Belgium (2021).
