Cem A. makes art memes, running the meme page @freeze_magazine and carrying the memes into physical space through site-specific installations, collaborative performance formats and workshops, which he describes as physical extensions of a digital phenomenon. The page has become a tool for collaborations with fellow artists, researchers and collectives. His memes deal with survival and alienation in the art world, often through a hyper-reflexive, self-deprecating lens, and take on the white cube, elitism, Western-centrism, cultural capital and clout. Wojak, the melancholy everyman of internet folklore, often serves as a mediator between the artist and his audience, voicing his ironic disillusionment with the art world.
