Born 1963 in Tehran, lives and works in Berlin
Ashkan Sahihi makes photographs that move between portraiture and conceptual series. He immerses himself in uncomfortable situations and spends extended time with his subjects, building narratives of his own around themes that often go unexamined, from drugs and hypnosis to gender and military service. His series include portraits of people under the influence of drugs or under hypnosis, faces pressed out of shape by a latex-gloved hand, women soldiers of the Israeli army and 375 women of Berlin, alongside portraits of musicians, writers, actors and artists. The Last Supper Weserstr. restages Leonardo's composition with residents of Neukölln, playing on the endless reproduction of iconic images and on neighbourliness, trust and betrayal.
