Artist
Anton Steenbock
Born 1984 in Germany, lives and works in Berlin and Rio de Janeiro
Anton Steenbock works with installation, intervention, inflatable sculpture, video, performance and sound, examining how capitalism and complex economic systems shape contemporary society and natural and urban landscapes. He engages with monumental architecture and urban development projects, commercial showrooms and large-scale advertising campaigns to raise public awareness of political, ecological and social change. His long-term project Da Silva Brokers produces fake architecture campaigns, showrooms and widely distributed propaganda around urban and environmental change, from Brazil during the World Cup and the Olympics to the corporate takeover of public space by Google Street View and sharing-economy platforms such as Uber and Airbnb. Steenbock also works collectively, with Peter Behrbohm as the artist collective SONDER.
