Larissa Rosa Lackner

Born 1987 in Nuremberg, lives and works in Berlin

Larissa Rosa Lackner draws everyday scenes in oil pastel on paper, built around a single central figure based on herself, her actions and her surroundings. Her series Ok bin da carries her training as a photographer into drawing: the figure is treated serially, posed like a model and framed with a snapshot's perspective and closeness, so that each starting point in the series composes a different story. The figures meet the viewer's gaze directly yet give little away, a mix of proximity and exclusion that Lackner relates to the pleasurably voyeuristic and painfully isolating experience of social media. Fast, bold strokes of oil pastel soften the sharpness of the snapshot and set still poses in motion, inside abstracted interiors in bright colours with almost no outside world, which gives the lightness a touch of claustrophobia. The series touches on gender roles, motherhood, intimacy and isolation, and on how the female body has been pictured in art history, in small moments of introspection about how hard ordinary tasks can be.
