Description
King Rhomberg (b. 1993, Hong Kong; based in Vienna) is a multidisciplinary artist working with painting, sculpture, and textiles. His art, at the nexus of East/West and Classic/ Contemporary, explores identity and place. Drawing from his Chinese-Austrian heritage and upbringing in Hong Kong, Rhomberg’s work incorporates graffiti elements and blends memory with structure. His playful, obsessive approach across mediums results in Edenic tableaus, merging European and Asian styles. Rhomberg’s chimerical works, reminiscent of Bosch or Bruegel, critique societal excesses through figures engaged in timeless pleasures within complex settings. Embracing nostalgia and surrealism, his art balances dark undertones with emotional ambiguity. Educated at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Rhomberg has exhibited at venues like Vin Vin Galerie, Vienna; Art Austria, Vienna; and A2Z Gallery, Hong Kong. His works are in collections like Kee Club, Shanghai; Madame Fu, Hong Kong; and Marden Art Fund, Manila.
