Description

Norbert Bisky (*1970 in Leipzig) lives and works in Berlin and Andalusia. He studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. From 2008 to 2010 he was a guest professor at the Geneva Academy of Art HEAD, and from 2016 to 2018 at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts. In 2015 he exchanged his studio in Berlin with the artist Erez Israeli and worked in Tel Aviv. Norbert Bisky is one of the most successful representatives of contemporary figurative painting.
The artist takes personal experiences of terror, travels to Brazil, and influences from the media world and formulates them into scenes of beauty, sexuality, violence, and destruction using vibrant, colorful tones. His paintings have been shown in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad and are part of the collection of the Museum Ludwig, Cologne; MoMA, New York and Israel Museum, Jerusalem, among others. In 2013, he produced the stage design for the performance Masse for the Staatsballett Berlin. Since May 2017, his work Vertigo can be seen in the entrance area of Berghain.
